Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about how Apex Drafting Services works, what is included, and what to expect before you start a project.
Timeline and Process
How long does it take to get my plans drafted?
Turnaround varies by project scope and local jurisdiction. A custom home design takes longer than an ADU or a remodel drafting package, and permitting requirements differ from county to county. We confirm a specific timeline with you when we scope your project, so you know what to expect before work begins.
How does remote drafting actually work?
We gather your requirements, lot details, and any inspiration or existing drawings through an initial consultation. Our team drafts your plans and sends progress for your review at agreed checkpoints. You give feedback, we revise within your included rounds, and we deliver final permit-ready files electronically. No site visit is required for the drafting process itself.
How do I start a project with Apex Drafting Services?
Request a free quote or call (435) 668-1095. We will ask about your project type, lot, timeline, and goals, then scope the work and confirm pricing and revision rounds before anything begins.
Are revisions included in the price?
Yes. Every project includes a set number of revision rounds, confirmed at quote before we start. That way there is no ambiguity about what is covered and what would be a change order.
Plans, Permits, and Engineering
Will my plans be permit-ready?
Yes. Permit-ready, code-compliant drawings are the standard we draft to. We build your plan set to meet the documentation your local permitting office expects, so you are not sent back to redo pages after submission. See our Permit-Ready Drawings & As-Builts service for details.
Do you provide structural engineering or stamped drawings?
Apex Drafting Services provides architectural drafting and design. We are not a structural engineering firm. If your jurisdiction requires a stamped structural engineering set, that is typically obtained separately through a licensed engineer as required by your local building department. We can coordinate our drawing set so it is ready to hand off for that step.
What file formats will I receive?
You will receive your plan set in standard formats your builder or local permitting office will accept, along with a print-ready set for submission and construction use.
What if I already have existing drawings or an older plan set?
That is common for remodels, additions, and permit-ready as-built projects. Share what you have and we will assess whether it can be used as a starting point or whether new as-built documentation is the better path.
Service Area
Do you work with clients in my state?
Yes. Apex Drafting Services works with homeowners, builders, and contractors nationwide. Drafting is 100% remote, with a particular focus in Texas, Florida, New York, and California, but we take on projects across the country.
Do I need to live near your office to work with you?
No. There is no local office to visit. Every project is handled remotely from consultation through final delivery, using calls, email, and shared files, so your location does not limit who you can work with.
Custom Plans, Stock Plans, and ADUs
What is the difference between custom and stock house plans?
Custom house plans are designed specifically for your lot, orientation, and preferences from the ground up. Stock house plans are pre-designed layouts, starting at $799, that can often be adapted with minor modifications. Custom offers full control over layout and site fit. Stock offers speed and a lower starting cost. Compare Custom House Plans and Stock House Plans.
Do you offer stock house plans, or is everything custom?
We offer both. Stock house plans start at $799 and are a faster, lower-cost route for standard layouts. Custom house plans are built from scratch around your lot, your list of must-haves, and your budget. We can walk you through which route fits your project on a free quote call.
Can you modify a stock plan to fit my lot or preferences?
In many cases, yes. Minor modifications to a stock plan, such as adjusting room sizes, flipping a layout, or adapting for a specific lot condition, can often be handled without starting a full custom design. We will tell you upfront if your changes are extensive enough that a custom approach makes more sense.
What is the process for ADU plans?
We start with a consultation to understand your lot, your goals, and any known zoning or setback constraints. From there we develop a design, move through your included revision rounds, and finalize a permit-ready ADU plan set for submission to your local jurisdiction. Requirements for accessory dwelling units vary by city and county, so we build around your specific local rules. See ADU Plans & Design.
Additions, Renderings, and Specialty Design
Do you handle home additions and remodel projects, or only new construction?
Both. Home Additions & Remodel Drafting is one of our core services, alongside new custom and stock home plans. We also produce permit-ready as-built drawings when your project requires accurate documentation of existing conditions before design work starts.
What are 3D renderings and do I need them?
3D renderings and walkthroughs give you a realistic visual of your design before construction starts, which helps you catch changes early and helps communicate the design to a builder, lender, or family member. They are not required for permitting, but many clients add them to reduce guesswork and revisions later. Learn more about 3D Renderings & Walkthroughs.
Can you design for energy efficiency or accessibility needs?
Yes. Energy-Efficient Home Design and Multigenerational & Universal Design are both services we offer, and they can be incorporated into a custom plan or a remodel. Tell us your goals during the consultation and we will build them into the drawing set.
Pricing
How do I get pricing for my specific project?
Every project is different, so pricing is confirmed at quote based on scope, square footage, and complexity. Stock house plans start at $799. Request a free quote and we will give you a clear number before you commit to anything.
